About Us

This initiative exists to make it quick and easy for a lake association to share already created content that would benefit other lake association.

If you have just researched and created and sent an email to your members about an invasive species then share!

If you have just researched and created an article for your newsletter about shoreline protection then share!

Sharing is simple - you just send your content to our sharing email and it automatically goes to all our participants. Why do we need to share? Well the most obvious is to avoid the effort of all the other lake association of re-inventory the wheel. The most important reason is that audience of your content will potentially be expanded to all the individual members of all the participant lake associations - they just need to forward it to their members. Our common goal is to educate people in our watersheds in order to protect and enhance them - this initiative does that at a larger scale. We all know lake associtions that are struggling with lack of volunteers - they might not have the time to research and create content for various topics of concern but they do have time to send an email to their members with the content you share. Lack of communication and information to members of a lake association may lead to declining membership - so not only is your content reaching the individual members but you are also helping to strengthen a neighbouring lake association - perhaps even a lake upstream from you or one that is a poplular fishing lake such that education about cleaning boats to prevent the spread of invasive species would benefit many lakes. Please SHARE! Note this concept was orginally pitched to the Lake Newtworking Group by one of their members, but they declined. Should Lake Networking Group ever change their minds this initiative can be quickly folded into their group. Networking and Sharing go hand in hand. Our Mission

Education
for a Common Understanding

Ecosystems are complex. Challenges facing our watersheds are complex. What can I do as an individual? When we, the many lake associations, work together to understand and educate each other about the complex issues facing our natural systems we all benefit. What is happening, what is the impact and more importantly what role each of us plays in contributing to the impact of that issue. What small things can each of us do differently, that collectively will have a positive impact? What happens if we do nothing?

Protect
for Future Generations

Preservation of what we have. It is easy to be complacent about the environment and the natural beauty of the watershed we share. All is good - right? Probably not - things are constantly changing and unless we are aware of these changes and take steps to address negative changes, things can go downhill quickly. Anyone noticing more weeds and algae in your lake? Remember once things deteriorate it is a huge challenge to reverse them. Reactive is not an approach that works well with natural systems - Proactive is the only real choice - prevent a problem before it happens. Protect what we have. If there are small negative changes detect them when they are small, and restore them back to health.

Take Action

Nature needs our help. Human behaviour has had a tremendous impact on natural systems, whether it is development and loss of natural habitat, pollution, climate change, increased nutrients, fishing pressures etc. there is no denying change is everywhere. There is ample literature out there that tells us what each of us can do to help. Lets share that information and avoid either re-inventing the wheel or worse this information not reaching the ears of members of individual lake associations. Action is needed by all of us.
